An instant classic launched in Fall 2005, AGAWF ushered in a new generation of alternative performance. The whole family will revel in an afternoon of eclectic multi-disciplinary performances by, for, or about kids!

Avant-Garde-Arama is P.S. 122’s longest-running series. This biannual multi-disciplinary mini-festival showcases short, new works from both established and emerging artists. In a fun, festive and informal atmosphere the best breakout dance, music, theatre, performance, video and more is presented in eight minutes or less.

Hosted by Mark Mitton with James Godwin. Featuring Installation by
The Love everybody Movement and starfish Liberation Army.
Two nights equal downtown’s definitive multi-disciplinary festival of the best in breakout performance, dance, music, theatre and more.

Friday: Iris Rose, Lumberob: A Mighty Mouth Music, Jeremy Wade,
Judy Elkan’s Playstation, and Jeffrey Lewis.

Saturday: Immediate Medium, Jonathan Zalben, Ursula Eagly,
Brendan deVallance, and The Sun Is Alone and on Fire.
Plus ongoing performance installations by Juan Souki and Sylvia Bofill

AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

On Sunday October 16 get ready for eight minute bursts of the weird, bizarre, out-there performances that made PS 122 and AVANT-GARDE-ARAMA famous but this time there’s a twist. Every performace is either by, for, or about kids! So load up the mini-van (6 train) and don’t forget the kids- or grownups who act like kids- and come on down to the East Village for an afternoon of fun and performance for the whole Avant-Garde-A-Family.


Sunday, October 16
will include dance from the Young Dance Collective and Magma – the junior company of Sarah East Johnson’s Lava; theater from the students of the Wooster Group Summer Institute; found-object puppetry -and a short puppet workshop – from Searls Puppetry as well as music from Lucian Buscemi’s band Stungun.
