Not so long ago, thousands of pigs roamed freely through NYC— to the great amusement of many and bewilderment of some. Now, pigeons run the streets in the thousands. At one time, a highly valued animal to people, pigeons had beautiful buildings dedicated to them, a legacy commemorated by their siblings, the peace dove. But pigeons have always flown the skies of revolution. Whether revered or disgraced, occasionally backed by riots, these animals never go down without a fight. Fahim Amir, acclaimed author of Being and Swine: The End of Nature as We Knew It, talks to younger audiences as part of our We the Youth – Keith Haring Lecture Series, about living amidst animals as comrades, within our urban life. Featuring a sampling of human & non-human snacks prepared by quori theodor for our human & non-human guests, including Benji, the pig and pigeon friends of artist Pat McCarthy.
We the Youth – Keith Haring Lecture Series invites children and their friends and families to meet luminaries who talk about ideas and social issues that are often left off of school curriculums.
This series is supported by The Keith Haring Foundation in honor of Keith Haring who collaborated with children throughout his life and believed in art’s ability to create a more accepting society.
ALOK on Gender invited by Puppies Puppies (Jade Guanaro Kuriki-Olivo).
Dr. Cornel West on Justice invited by Ariana Reines.
Fahim Amir on Animals invited by quori theodor.
