Mass Live Arts Opens This Week

Now is your chance to see PS122 alumni Half Straddle, Radiohole & New York City Players in a picturesque setting away from the city heat. Our friends at Mass Live Arts are launching their first season this week. See what the Boston Globe had to say:

“Populated with artists in their 20s and early 30s, this emerging scene seeks to draw younger patrons to a cultural milieu where the median audience age otherwise seems to lurk somewhere in late middle age. The movement reaches a peak this week, with the newly launched Mass Live Arts festival bringing three leading, New York-based progressive theater companies…”

Habit and Half Straddle FTW

All of us at PS122 are proud to announce that 2012/13 season artists David Levine, Marsha Ginsberg and Half Straddle took home Village Voice Obie Awards last night. Slideshow of cell phone photos taken during the 58th annual ceremony at Webster Hall are below.

Creator David Levine and Environment Designer Marsha Ginsberg took home a special citation Obie for the critically-acclaimed show, Habit, which premiered last September as part of PS122’s Fall 2012 season, co-presented by The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF)’s Crossing the Line festival.

Half Straddle (PS122 COIL 13 artist) took home the Obie Grant Award acknowledging rising, young companies for their artistic excellence accompanied by a $1,000 grant. Half Straddle’s Chekhov inspired Seagull (Thinking of you) was commissioned by PS122 as part of the 8th Annual COIL Festival, co-presented with the New Ohio Theatre.

Congrats also goes to PS122 alums Rachel Chavkin, Lear deBessonet, Dave Malloy and Nature Theater of Oklahoma! See all the winners here

So proud of our PS122 family accomplishments!

Mass Live Arts Brings Performance To The Berkshires

If you want an escape from the asphalt jungle this Summer, a new performance festival is starting in Great Barrington, Massachusetts featuring two of our favorite shows from COIL 2013 and a new show by Half Straddle / New York City Players. The program was founded by Ilan Bachrach and in addition to presenting series they also have a residency program in the works:

We are dedicated to presenting large-scale bold new works of contemporary performance in the Berkshires. MLA is also committed to fostering the creation of new American works through development residencies culminating in work-in-progress showings. This residency is for highly-talented companies or performing artists in need of space and time to create new work.
